Class of 2018
Vanessa Amankwaa spent eight weeks of her summer in Moshi, Tanzania. For the first four-weeks she worked with her Cornell and Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College (KCMC) classmates on a case study concerning formal health insurance in Tanzania. In groups, she was able to research and analyze the policies and current circumstances that barred many from receiving healthcare and took part in creating possible solutions for the future. In the second half of her time in Tanzania, she worked with a non-profit organization called Training, Research, Monitoring & Evaluation on Gender and AIDS (TRMEGA). During this time she was able to learn about the importance of traditional food, medicine,Tanzanian herbs, and food sustainability to the health and well-being of women with HIV/AIDS in Tanzania.
