Xavier Salvador

Class of 2019

Through the CALS Global Fellows program, Xavier spent 10 weeks in Dodoma, Tanzania working for an NGO, Episcopal Relief & Development, that has a partnership with the Anglican Church in the area. With the rural development office, he and another Cornell student conducted 270 household surveys regarding demographics, harvest yields, and food security. Their research sought to understand the effectiveness of the organization's conservation agriculture trainings and microfinance groups. They implemented several research strategies and demographic concepts from their DSOC classes (DSOC 2010 Population Dynamics and DSOC 3130 Social Indicators and Introduction to Social Science Research) to formulate their survey and analyze data. The internship was a tremendous introduction to the field of international development!
