Overview
My work this year has focused on the "Aging and Environment Initiative". Working collaboratively with Professor Karl Pillemer in the College of Human Ecology, we have done research and outreach on a program to increase the civic engagement of older adults by involving them in environmental volunteering. The program is currently funded by Federal Formula Funds, College of Human Ecology funds and some foundation funding. We will pilot the program in Tompkins County in the Spring of 2008 and in the Capital Region of New York in late 2008. My several publications this year have related to civic participation and environmental management, which this initative supports.
Research Focus
My research focus is to work in a multi-disciplinary fashion linking social, biological and physical components of watershed management and civic participation.
Outreach and Extension Focus
My work crosses research and outreach boundaries and I collaborate with stakeholders in a watershed context to look at enviornmental management issues, especially related to retirees and the older adult population.
