Environment and Community
The Environment and Community (EC) initiative focuses applied research and outreach on issues related to public participation in environmental management, environmental volunteerism, the civic engagement of older adults through environmental stewardship, and a state-sponsored program to incorporate ecosystem-based management in New York State. The EC initiative has a close association with several colleges at Cornell including the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Human Ecology, and Cornell Cooperative Extension through various county associations, notably Tompkins, the Capital Region, and Tioga/Schuyler/Chemung.
Central themes to the EC initiative are:
• Public Participation in Environmental Management
• Aging and the Environment (collaboration with the Cornell Institute for Translational Research on Aging)
• Environmental Volunteerism
