University at Buffalo Center for Urban Studies, Department of Urban and Regional Planning's East Side Neighborhood Transformation Partnership Advance Newsletter
December 11, 2007
The fall issue of Advance "It's Time to Talk," focuses on neighborhood development, and the lead essay builds on the theme, "It takes a village to raise a child." While agreeing with the theme, the essay says that a central problem facing the African American community is that we no longer have villages. If it takes a village to raise a child, and we don't have any villages, then we have a serious problem.
Within this context, Professor Henry Taylor answers the question, "what is to be done?," in a three part series on neighborhood development. Read the first installment of the essay, "It Takes a Village... Toward a Focus on Neighborhood Development."
