CaRDI continued to make a strong impact in 2008 building on its previous successes. CaRDI strengthened its role as a key training provider for local officials, bolstered its applied research efforts, and improved its information providing services. The activities discussed in the 2007 Annual Report were continued through 2008. In this 2008 update, we highlight new and emerging activities and programs whose priorities are:
- To provide local officials and other state and local leaders with up to date information and training
- To focus on timely, relevant issues
- To develop strong connections with and among faculty
- To build on a solid foundation of training opportunities
- To maintain an effective partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension
We are excited about emerging partnerships with a number of organizations, including the New York State Office of the State Comptroller, Pace University and Albany Law School. In addition, CaRDI successfully competed to become the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration University Center for New York State during 2008-2011. Our current EDA University Center's work builds directly from the role we are playing in developing the Pipeline 4 Progress (P4P) regional action plan. This year we will further develop our web-based resource and training program (VIEW) that offers a practical approach to data and indicators, including where to find useful data on various issues, how to interpret data, and how to use this information strategically for decision-making purposes.
CaRDI's strengths lie in providing research-based information via trainings, publications, seminars, webinars, and other activities. We foster faculty collaboration, support CCE Associations and facilitate constructive policy-relevant dialogue.
Sincerely,
Max J. Pfeffer, co-faculty Director
David Brown, co-faculty Director
Rod Howe, Executive Director
