The Department of Development Sociology participates in the College Honors Program through the College's Social Sciences Honors Committee. Undergraduates who have completed at least 55 credits, with a minimum of 30 earned at Cornell, and who have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 are eligible to apply for the honors program. Students interested in pursing the B.S. degree with honors must make written application to the Social Sciences Honors Committee no later than the end of the third week of the first semester of their senior year. Application forms are available from the College Registrar (140 Roberts) or from the chair of the Social Sciences Honors Committee. To graduate with honors a student must prepare an honors thesis which reports the results of an original research project, have the thesis approved by the Social Sciences Honors Committee, and maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
An honors student must have a faculty supervisor who agrees to direct their research. Before students can be admitted into the honors program, approval of the research project by the Social Sciences Honors Committee is required.
Academic credit may be earned for the honors program by enrolling in Development Sociology 4991, Independent Honors Research in Social Science during the fall and/or spring semesters of their senior year.
