To receive a general minor in Development Sociology (formerly Rural Sociology) take three of the following core courses:
- introductory sociology (DSOC 1101)
- international development (DSOC 2050)
- social indicators (DSOC 3130; or DSOC 3140, methods)
- comparative issues in social stratification (DSOC 3700).
At least one of the following electives must be taken (DSOC 3700 does not count for both sections.). If only one of the following electives is taken then a minimum of 3 additional credits in any undergraduate course with a "DSOC" designation must be taken.
- theories of society (DSOC 3010)
- evaluating statistical evidence (DSOC 3020)
- education, inequality and development (DSOC 3050)
- social movements (DSOC 3110)
- environment and society (DSOC 3240)
- comparative issues in social stratification (D0SOC 3700)
- independent honors research (DSOC 4991)
Only courses for which a grade of "C" or better is received will count toward the minor in Development Sociology. Courses taken with an "S/U" option will NOT count. Please see Renee Hoffman, 133 Warren Hall to enroll in the Minor.
