Everything occurs in space. Knowing where organizations are located and events occur in space provide clues to understanding social order and processes not revealed by traditional social analysis techniques. At the same time, spatial thinking and methods are becoming increasingly used in the social sciences. The purpose of this course is to introduce the undergraduate to both aspects of spatial patterns, trends and themes but also to methodologies for bringing spatial cosiderations into their research. The course will provide a practical introduction to GIS via lab assignments.
